commonly known as "MOONIES", are actively recruiting in Jerusalem

CARP, The Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles, has been handing out fliers in Jerusalem luring youth to parties.

Beyneynu began investigating the Jerusalem-based organization after receiving numerous reports from concerned parents whose children came home with invitations to parties. The fliers were handed out in Kikar Tzion, a popular youth hang out for high school and seminary age students. Fliers were also posted on various social media platforms.

Beyneynu reports that Thursday night gatherings have been occuring at a nearby location since September 2022, and include events such as game nights, discussions, sushi making, and a Hanukah Christmas party.

CARP is only one out of more than 200 front names used by The Unification Church, also known as Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity (HSA-UWC), or more commonly known as "MOONIES". The nickname refers to followers of the founder, Reverend Sun Myung Moon.
 

Established in 1954, the group became famous for their mass weddings called Holy Marriage Blessing Ceremonies, where thousands have agreed to arranged marriages set up by the "True Parents, Father and Mother Moon".

Moon claimed to be the messiah, appointed by God to finish the mission that Jesus was unable to complete.

The church is widely considered to be a cult, according to the BITE model of cult classification, created by cult expert Dr. Steven Hassan, who himself is a former member of the Moon organization.

The Jerusalem operation claims its only vision is "for every college student in America to live a Principled Life, as defined by 3 Core Principles: God - Renew our spirituality through seeking truth and relating with God as our Parent, Family - Realize one family under God through practicing integrity and true love, and Peace - Raise true leaders who create a peaceful environment and united world."

Dr. Steven Hassan warns that although the mission of CARP appears benign, the entity is only one of the various entities used by the group to target various sectors of society. CARP was founded specifially in order to target young people, and is most commonly found on college campuses.

Shannon Nuszen, Director of Beyneynu, says that this is concerning since youth on college campuses are very vulnerable. Students are asserting their independence, looking to find themselves, and are often for the first time in their lives without their family or support system. The social activities and sense of belonging to a group are a huge draw.

Parents are urged to warn students about the nature of the group, and to reach out for help if there are any concerns that your child might be involved.
